Picture of Steve playing in a wedding ceremony. Weddings

I have played for many weddings all around South Eastern PA.  I have found that there is no one right way to incorporate bagpipes into a wedding service.  Some couples only what to hear one tune and some want to hear the pipes all day.  More often then not, I am asked to play outside the church while guests arrive and again as they exit.  However, playing in the church as a musical introduction, interlude, and/or conclusion can also be done to brighten the Celtic atmosphere of the ceremony.  The wedding reception is another good place to include the pipes, as (fairly loud) background music or as a kind of mini-concert.

Here are a few options that might help you decide how you would like to incorporate bagpipes into your wedding.   Mix and match as you wish. NEW: click here to download sample music files!

  • Inside or outside leading up to the processional as guests arrive
  • The processional
  • Musical interludes during the service
  • The recessional
  • After the recessional but before leaving for the reception
  • At the reception as guests arrive
  • The announcement of the bride and groom at the reception
  • Background music or performance style playing during the reception

There is a lot of tradition in the history of the bagpipe.  One of these traditions is saying a final farewell to a loved one.  The bagpipe is a powerful instrument that can relate powerful emotion.  At funerals, bagpipes are often played as a musical memorial to the one who has passed on.

I have played many funerals and take each one quite seriously.  I realize that the music I play will leave a lasting impression and will become part of the final memories that the family and friends will have of the deceased.  I only wish to play in a way that will enhance these memories.

Here are a few options that might help you decide how you would like to incorporate bagpipes during the funeral service.
  • At the viewing
  • As guests arrive for the service
  • Musical interludes during the service
  • While guests pay final respects to the deceased
  • While the casket is carried into the hearse
  • At various times during the grave side service

Other Events

Bagpipes can also be a great addition to retirement parties, birthday parties, St. Patrick's Day events, other holiday parties and events, graduation ceremonies and baccalaurete ceremonies, awards shows and ceremonies, family reunions and block parties, and just about any other gathering of friends, family, and community.
